THE MATERIALS BEHIND YOUR GAME
Natural comfort.
Considered protection.
Understand what is in your kit, what it does on the course,
and how to keep it ready for the next round.

The best layer starts with the fibre.
For golfers in Ireland and the UK, comfort means adapting to the day: a cool first tee, a brisk walk and a breeze coming in off the water. Merino brings natural temperature and moisture management to that changing rhythm.

PROTECTION AT THE CORE
Natural outside.
Extraordinary within.
Behind the soft merino knit of AG11 and AG12, a GORE-TEX® membrane brings waterproof, windproof and breathable protection. Made for the rounds you refuse to miss.
COMFORT BEYOND THE COURSE
45/55 merino wool & acrylic
Selected KAMA home pieces use Schoeller yarn with 45% merino wool and 55% acrylic. This is the blend in Q4100, Q4103, P4100 and P4103, rather than the 50/50 yarn used in other blankets and cushions.
Choose by the composition and size shown on the individual product. The yarn brings merino into a practical home knit; the finished piece’s care label remains the starting point for washing and drying.

Schoeller yarns
Specialist Schoeller yarns bring fine merino and considered fibre blends to selected KAMA golf headwear. Explore the yarn, its chlorine-free EXP treatment and the product-specific material standards behind the knit.
KAMA has worked exclusively with Schoeller yarns since 1996. Yarn composition, lining and weather protection differ between models; choose by the complete construction listed on each product.

Fine merino wool
Softness with a purpose. Merino helps balance warmth and moisture through a changing round, and naturally resists odour. Our AG11 and AG12 use 100% merino outer yarn; other styles combine merino with technical fibres, as listed on each product.
Schoeller’s fine merino yarn uses fibres measuring 20.5 microns. The wool can absorb moisture within its fibres while remaining comfortable against the skin. Air your knitwear between rounds and wash only when needed.
The full Fine merino wool guideNATURAL COMFORT. EVERYDAY RESILIENCE.
50/50 merino wool & acrylic
Fine merino and premium acrylic share the yarn equally. The wool brings softness, temperature management and natural odour resistance; acrylic supports a practical knit for regular wear. This is the Schoeller blend used in styles including A196, A188 and AW74.
The merino fibres measure 20.5 microns. Schoeller’s chlorine-free EXP treatment supports gentle washing where the garment label permits it. Look for the separate lining and membrane details too: a 50/50 outer does not describe the whole garment.

bluesign® APPROVED yarn
Selected KAMA styles use Schoeller yarn that is bluesign® APPROVED. The system assesses chemical inputs and production practices, with attention to people, resources and the environment. We identify the approved yarn on the relevant product pages.
A component approval is specific: it should not be read as certification of every finished garment or a promise of zero environmental impact. Schoeller also describes traceability and other standards for its yarns; their scope depends on the material supplied.

GORE-TEX®
The waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane inside AG11 and AG12 keeps the weather out while allowing moisture vapour to escape. It works alongside the knit and inner lining; the wool itself is not what makes the beanie waterproof.
A slight rustling sound from the membrane is normal. Choose these models for wet-weather golf when you want waterproof protection as well as warmth.
The full GORE-TEX® guideFOR EXPOSED TEES
WINDSTOPPER®
A breathable membrane that blocks wind and reduces wind chill. It is used in selected beanies, headbands, neckwarmers and softshell pieces, with coverage varying by model. Windproofing is a different benefit from a full waterproof construction.
Check the product details for whether protection covers a headband, a front panel or the full piece. The membrane may make sound slightly less clear around the ears.
The full WINDSTOPPER® guideCOMFORT IN MOTION
Polycolon®
A lightweight polypropylene fibre that moves moisture away from the skin rather than holding it. Used in selected inner linings and headbands, it helps keep the area next to your skin comfortable as you walk the course.
Look for Polycolon® in the AG11, AG12, AW74 and A188. Its job is moisture management; it is not a waterproof membrane.

Tecnowool®
The Tecnowool® pieces in our range combine 40% merino wool, 45% polyester and 15% nylon. This brings wool’s natural comfort together with technical fibres for active use and practical durability.
Find it in the A03 beanie, C48 headband, S03 neckwarmer and D23 balaclava. A useful option when you prefer a lighter, closer-fitting layer.

Tecnopile® fleece
A soft fleece used in selected linings, headbands and panels. It adds lightweight warmth and a smooth feel around the ears or face. High-loft versions provide extra insulation in warmer headwear.
Coverage differs by style. The A196 uses an inner headband, while colder-weather designs may be lined more extensively.
The full Tecnopile® fleece guideFLEXIBLE BY DESIGN
Tecnostretch® fleece
An elastic fleece that combines a durable outer surface with a soft inner feel. It is used where movement and a close fit matter, including selected technical beanies and face coverings.
In the AW38 it complements windproof protection at the front, allowing the rest of the beanie to sit flexibly around the head.

Thermolite®
An insulating technical fibre with a hollow structure that traps air without unnecessary bulk. The AW67 uses a Thermolite® inner headband to help manage moisture and comfort during active outdoor wear.
A practical detail in a lighter cap for practice sessions, training and faster-paced walks.
The full Thermolite® guideA FIT THAT MOVES
Lycra®
Stretch and recovery help a close-fitting piece follow your movement. In the AW67, a flexible Lycra® fabric works with targeted wind protection and an insulating inner headband.
For golfers who prefer a smooth technical silhouette to a traditional knit.

perPETual fleece
Recycled PET is processed into polyester fibres for this soft technical fleece. It provides flexible warmth in selected products, including the DW28 balaclava.
Recycled content applies to the specified fleece component. Other panels and membranes have their own material composition.
The full perPETual fleece guideCHLORINE-FREE PROCESSING
EXP wool treatment
Schoeller’s EXP treatment gives wool washability without the conventional chlorine treatment. It supports straightforward wool-cycle care when the individual garment label allows it.
A washable yarn still needs gentle handling. Use the wool cycle, a suitable detergent and a low spin, and dry the piece flat.
The full EXP wool treatment guideMATERIAL INNOVATION
Sustainno
KAMA’s wider material development includes a yarn blending 65% merino wool with 35% recycled polyester. It is a separate construction from the pure merino and merino blends currently featured in our approved golf collection.
We describe the materials actually used in each item. A mention of a future-facing yarn here does not mean every product in this shop contains it.
The full Sustainno guideKEEP YOUR KAMA IN PLAY
A little care. Many more rounds.
These are general merino guidelines. The care label on your individual product takes priority, especially for membranes, linings and blended fabrics.
Air before you wash
Let your merino air between rounds. It often needs fresh air rather than a full wash after every wear.
Keep the wash gentle
Follow the garment label. Where permitted, use a wool programme or hand wash at no more than 30°C, with a wool detergent and low spin.
Protect the fibres
Avoid fabric softener, hot water and sudden temperature changes. Gently remove excess water; do not twist or wring the knit.
Reshape. Dry flat.
Return the damp garment to its shape and lay it on a clean towel. Keep it away from a tumble dryer, radiator or direct heat.
REPAIR BEFORE REPLACING
Keep a favourite in the game.
A snag, a small hole or a loose seam does not always mean the end of a piece. For larger damage or uncertainty, email our Galway team a clear photograph. We’ll help assess whether repair is suitable and discuss the next step. Costs and arrangements depend on the work required.
